Language Focus in English
1. Yes/No questions. Read the following examples then summarise the grammatical structure of yes/no questions.
Examples:
Will you play with us? Do they celebrate their victory? Did you watch the tennis match?
→ Structure: ... + subject + ... + ...?
2. Wh- questions. From the following examples, identify the two possible structures of wh- questions.
Examples:
Where do you live? What are you fond of? How do you go to school? Who did she compete with?
→ Structure : ... + ...+ subject + ... (+ ...)?
Be careful, the question can be about the subject of the sentence.
Who is competing here? What happened yesterday? Which player has won the competition?
→ Structure : ... + ...+ ...?
3. How many/How much? Look at the following questions.
How many athletes are competing in the Olympic Games?
How much water do you need ?
Underline the noun they refer to.
Are they countable (things you can count) or uncountable (things you cannot count)?
So, what can you say about much vs. many?
